SelectHealth Logo Build- Day 4

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

The mosaic is finished! Brian Pilati, ULUG’s president, sent this message out after the build:

Thanks everyone!

The project turned out awesome!

I really appreciate everyone who came and helped … we could not have done it without everyone!

This was a really great project. Thanks to SelectHealth for giving us this opportunity! :D

As usual, the time lapse is after the break.

SelectHealth Logo Build- Day 3

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Ok, apparently the whole thing collapsing was an April Fool’s Day joke and the mosaic is still intact. Very funny guys. ;) We’re getting really close to finishing up, and it should be done tomorrow. See today’s time lapse video after the jump.

SelectHealth Logo Build- Day 2

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Today was the second day of the build, and the model is coming along nicely. Tracy said:

The build was going really good today, until the thing crashed and we lost about 400 bricks off it. but hopefully we will be able to make headway on Wed.

The mosaic is still looking great. Watch another time lapse video after the break.

SelectHealth Logo Build- Day 1

Monday, March 30th, 2009

So… I suppose it’s about time to start updating the website again! We’ve been very busy for the last 7 months displaying at train shows and holding club meetings, along with a couple special projects for SelectHealth, a local health insurance company. In February we built a large LEGO cake to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of their logo, and today we started on a week-long project to build a large mosaic of the logo. The finished mosaic will contain over 11,100 LEGO bricks and will be about 4′x4′. Click the link below to see a time lapse video of today’s progress.

September Meeting/Drawbridge

Friday, September 28th, 2007

This month’s meeting was held at Spencer’s home in Wendover, Nevada.

The agenda was as followed:

  1. We toured Spencer’s new LEGO room. The room is located in his
basement and is 15′ by 20′ with metal shelves to hold his collection.
  2. Spencer is on the decline of sorting his e-bay purchase from
March. However, during the meeting Spencer discovered that his sorting,
at times, was insufficient to produce a known part at a given time.
  3. The LUG choose to build a working drawbridge to use in our train layouts.

The LUG has been unable to build a circular layout due to access to the interior (no one enjoyed crawling under the tables).

The bridge turned out great and was a classic LUG collaboration with everyone pitching in the help. George and Nate worked on the bridge understructure and towers. Isaac, Luke and Bill worked on the bridge side trusses and the towers. Luke contributed two “U-LUG” mosaics to integrate into the sides of the towers. Bill, Brian and Spencer designed a motor and pulley system to lift the bridge. Our expectations of the weight of the bridge were too high and the gear-down too large
and slow. In fact the motor probably could have lifted a small car
without problem. The highlight of the day was when we put all the pieces
together and the bridge worked on the first try!

Please review the film here: (link coming soon-ish)

We would like to thank Spencer for the opportunity to meet at his house and the wonderful lunch Cindy (his wife) provided us.

Large portions of this post were written by Brian Pilati.
